Does Baldwin 8231.PAT come with a back plate?

Is this the traditional size deadbolt or is it a bit smaller?

A. Thank you for your question. The Baldwin 8231.PAT is a tradtitional sized deadbolt that fits standard doors with backsets of 2-3/8" and 2-3/4".

Is there a universal key I can purchase to unlock this deadbold from outside the door? My almost-two-year-old keeps locking himself in his room, and I have to use a pair of needlenose pliers accessed through the little cover plate on the outside of the door to unlock the door. Seems like there should be a key I could purchase to make this easier. Please help!

A. A universal key would render the functionality of the Baldwin 8231.PAT obsolete. You may wish to consider a double sided deadbolt so you can unlock it with a key from the other side.
